Forty Six
When they arrived back at camp, there was little time for Will to worry about Diana or for Aguilero to brood. "Don't bother unpacking your saddlebags," Harley told them. "Just add some extra food and ammo, because Bonham has a scouting unit in the area and we're heading out in the morning to intercept them."
When Amalia went to her room, she found Macy sitting up, wearing her brace. Sachi and the other girls had trooped in every afternoon to visit, and Coyote had brought her meals and slept by her side each night. He had even moved his belongings into the room as if it were his right to take up residence. Seeing how happy Macy was, Amalia was reluctant to send him away.
Will shrugged. "He's my friend, Mother. He doesn't bother me. But of course, if you want him to go. . ."
"I suppose it's okay while she's recuperating. But once she's well, they'll have to get their own room together."
"With what they get up to, that goes without saying."
Macy was glad to have Amalia back, but her smile masked a deeper worry. "This mission the guys are going on— is it dangerous?"
"Doesn't that boyfriend of yours know?"
She shook her head. "They don't usually tell Joseph stuff that pertains to him— just other people."
"Joseph?"
"He asked me to call him by his real name."
“I see.” Amalia frowned and picked at a knot on one of Macy’s bandages.
"So you're not worried?"
"Of course I am. I worry about Will all the time, but this is the sort of thing he and your Joseph train for. They'll look out for each other."
"I know, but. . ."
"Enough of that." Amalia tucked the covers around her and stood up. "They'll be back before you know it."

Wow, Coyote has a real name. *blink* *blink* Silly me. Of course he does.
I've always thought the way Coyote and Macy's relationship evolved is very sweet. Men consider her damaged goods because she's a whore, and he's damaged goods because he's crazy. They accept each other for what they are, though. They both find it so remarkable to be loved without reservations that it creates a pretty special bond between them.
I see you're on track to finish Book One by this weekend. You'll like this next bit where the boys ride out to settle some business with the Texans.
Yeah? Excellent!
